I
As an added bonus we have also received the proper materials to cement the floors of the three brick classrooms; this has major health benefits as opposed to dealing with dirt floors. Dirt floors in tropical regions house many bugs and parasites that can make a learning environment unsafe.
We are also gathering funds to purchase three acres of land to begin to grow coffee. This was a primary goal for this trip. Coffee is Uganda's main cash crop and with worldwide love of the product the demand is only going up.
If we can raise the funds to purchase this land, we will be able to plant the coffee in the fall and it will begin producing in about 18 months. We would like to see sales from the coffee be enough to fully support Mweruka Junior School. This is a very important first step to make Mweruka school self-sustainable and ensure continued community support and development. If you would like to help by donating funds for this project, please head to our donation section and include a short description of where you would like to see your gift go. All donations are welcome and appreciated.
We will be posting more updates and information as these projects develop.
We hope to post more photos and material from this summer's trip as more Unite Our World members return home! We have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, and are eager to get started. Check back soon for more updates as our Summer building projects come to a close.
Thank You for your support. It is through the contributions and support of our community that we are able to continue doing great things!
